The Church of Saint Roch

The Coker Ridge Benefice

Pendomer is one of seven parishes in the Coker Ridge benefice, the others being Closworth, East Chinnock, East Coker,  Hardington Mandeville, Sutton Bingham and West Coker.

For details of services in all these parishes and to see other material including the benefice calendar and the weekly and monthly “Coker Ridgeway” news sheets please go to the benefice website

The church family of Pendomer has gathered in this peaceful place of worship since 1297.  We are a very small parish and normally have a congregation of about 12.  Our services are informal and are followed by refreshments. Please join us - a warm welcome awaits you.

Services are normally held at 9.15am.  On the second Sunday of each month there is a Family Service and on the third and fourth Sundays we have Sung Communion.  When there is a fifth Sunday a joint service is hosted by one of the churches in the Benefice.  There is no service on the first Sunday of each month.

Additional services are held from time to time and the service pattern is likely to alter around major festivals.  For full details of services planned for the next few months click HERE.

Church Council

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) is responsible for the management of the parish church.  Councillors are elected by parishioners on the Church Electoral Roll and meet about three times a year. To email the PCC Secretary click HERE.  To access the PCC members area (requires password) click on the button below.

Parish Registers

We have transcripts of the Pendomer baptism and burial registers dating from 1813 and the marriage registers from 1837.  Earlier registers dating back to 1730 are available at the Somerset Archive and Record Service.

To cover the cost of running this website we make a one-off charge of £5 for viewing our transcripts.  For a list of the surnames found and to access the transcripts click HERE.

Illustrated Guide Booklet

To see an illustrated description of the church and its history please click HERE. We can supply a printed copy of the Guide in A5 format for £2.50 including postage; if you would like us to send you one please click the button below.

Stained Glass

A new East Window featuring the life and work of St Roch was installed in 2004. To view an illustrated history of this project click HERE.
